Opening in 2018, The Bonnie Badger is the first restaurant with rooms from husband-and-wife team Tom and Michaela Kitchin.

At The Bonnie Badger, every detail is carefully considered to ensure every guest has an exceptional experience.

About Us

12 en-suite bedrooms include Double, Deluxe, Superior and Loft bedrooms, as well as one Master Suite, situated across the main house and within two exterior cottages, adjacent to the garden.  Each room has been carefully designed to enhance the original features of the building, while introducing thoughtful and modern elements of luxury throughout.

Proud holders of a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand and 5 AA Gold Stars, The Bonnie Badger presents an enviable range of dining options across restaurant The Stables, Broc Bar, The Garden Room and The Garden, with each menu evoking a ‘From Nature to Plate’ philosophy.

The same attention to detail and commitment to local sourcing is also evident in a carefully curated list of drinks to perfectly complement the food on offer.

The Team

Tom and Michaela, alongside Food & Beverage Director Philippe Nublat, collectively lead and inspire a talented team of managers, chefs, front of house, bartenders and housekeepers, who together create a truly welcoming destination for locals and visitors alike.


The kitchen at The Bonnie Badger is overseen by Chef Tom Kitchin and award-winning Chef Director, Dominic Jack. A talented team of Chefs bring a wealth of experience to The Bonnie Badger while remaining true to the values of the ‘From Nature to Plate’ ethos by championing seasonal produce and working closely with local producers and farmers.

In 2019, The Bonnie Badger was awarded a Michelin Guide GB & Ireland Bib Gourmand, an accolade which it has held onto every year since.

In 2019, The Bonnie Badger was also awarded 5 Gold Stars from AA, as a leading Restaurant with Rooms, an accolade it has held onto every year since.

The venue has also been recognised by VisitScotland, gaining a 5 Star Award, Restaurant with Rooms, in recognition of exceptional standards.

The Bonnie Badger is located in the heart of East Lothian’s coastal village of Gullane, around a 30-minute drive from Edinburgh.
Located in East Lothian’s Golf country, The Bonnie Badger is surrounded by 22 golf courses including the famous Muirfield Golf course, the host of many open Championships, and the renowned Archerfield is located just on the doorstep.

The award-winning stunning beach, Gullane Bents, which is backed by large sand dunes, is located a short 10-minute walk from The Bonnie Badger.  Gullane is part of the John Muir walk which is a long-distance footpath along the coast between Musselburgh and Dunglass.

The seaside town of North Berwick is situated about 10 minutes from Gullane, and boats two sandy bays, with golf courses at the ends of each bay.

There is free parking for guests at the rear of The Bonnie Badger, on Goose Green.

in the Community


Set in the building of an old village hotel, originally established in 1836, the Bonnie Badger’s location has always played an important part of the Gullane community, and when they took over the property in 2018, Tom and Michaela Kitchin were determined to ensure it remained at the heart of the local Gullane community.

Today, The Bonnie Badger is committed to supporting a number of local charities, independent suppliers and businesses.

The Bonnie Badger sponsors the Gullane Athletic AFC, supporting the U14 Girls team who currently play in the South-East Region under the Scottish Women’s Football Association.
